Amanda Palmer Life Drawing

On Saturday, October 24th, Galen, CatGirl and I will attempt an 18-hr version of Scott McCloud’s 24-Hour Comic challenge. If you’re unfamiliar with the phenomenon, Wikipedia has a good summary of the rules. Past grads include luminaries like Kevin Eastman and Neil Gaiman.

We’re looking for a few good humans to join us. And any other creatures who can make comics.

Now, you may be saying to yourself, “But John, I can’t draw! My chihuahuas look suspiciously like urinals!” No need to fear, my friend. Many respectable comics are not drawn at all, but are simply creatively captioned woodcuts or clip art or photos of legos. Heck, one of the most popular comics on the internet is all stick figures!

We’ll post more details next week, but we hope that some of you will be interested in joining the fun! We envision posting panels or pages on our blogs throughout the day on the 24th so that everyone can follow along. We’ll post cross-links to anyone who is participating in the event.

If you’re interested in joining the fun, please email us or leave a comment below!

[Update:] I forgot to mention why we’re not going for 24 hours: because we are old and tired. If you can only participate for a fraction of the time, or want to try this on another day, let us know, and we’ll find some way to include you in on the fun. :)

I want to play! I’m feeling very intimidated, but still think it will be fun.

If there’s room I’d be up for contributing! I’m not very visually creative, but I’ve got moderate skills with GIMP, (I’m looking to get better with Inkscape) and I can rock a word bubble like it’s nobody’s business.

Count me in! I’m moderately terrible with the GIMP, and my Inkscape skillz are in the pre-novice range. But I like making comics!

G, I know #18hrComic is 10 chars, but it’s very clear. Shall we run with that?

BiV, Ben and Sean, yay, you! There’s plenty of room–it’s the Internet. :)

I think this is going to be a lot of fun. :)

I just might have to join in! Although, I have to say I have a pretty hard time coming up with a story for a weekly comic as it is!

There may be a slight issue with the fact that I’m working that day… Boss might not like the usage of time if I spend it drawing all day.

Thinking on it. Not my speciality, but sounds like great fun.

JoeR: Woot!–You’d be the sole official webcomicker among us. How does this sound: Do you want to try the challenge on an earlier day that works better for you, and then let the images unfold on your site throughout the 24th?

chosha, not my speciality either! :)

Last night as I was falling asleep I came up with an awesome story for my comic. Now if only I were a decent artist. May the spirit of G enter me and be with me.

Just imagine the clouds being pulled from the sky and lots of body parts falling down like rain.
