Kudos to Jana.

Map of Catalina and SoCal

Jana completed her 31+ mile race across the open water from Newport Beach to Avalon yesterday. I’m so proud of her!

In one day, she had her first outrigger race over 10 miles, her first ride on the Pacific in a motor boat, first swims on the open water miles away from any shoreline, and her first ride in a little Cessna (from a tiny island airport to boot!). You can read more about it in her post.

It’s inspiring (and at times intimidating) to be married to one of your heroes.

    Isn’t 31 nautical miles like comparing cat years to human years?! Holy crap, I can’t imagine paddling or rowing that far in a week, much less racing in a day… props to Jana for such a feat!

    Rich: I don’t know the formula. I heard the distance we traveled described as anywhere from 26 miles to 36 miles. All I cared about was the halfway pt and those last 5 delicious miles!!
