As a rule, I try not to overlap with my partner’s posts, but this one needs elaboration. I have a number of weird art festishes. One is that I love reinterpretations of Da Vinci’s iconic Last Supper (esp. in pop culture). I’ve written about this in the past, and I have a small collection of some of random favorites posted on the wall of my closet office:
I also have a thing for cephalopods. Maybe it’s in my Japanese blood. Daughter CatGirl has indulged this by creating these magnificent works for past birthdays and Christmases:
The middle one deserves a closer look–it’s a perfect mashup of the two–Squid Jesus and Apostles at the Last Supper! Now there’s a messiah worth worshiping.
Can a father feel more loved? Will she try to throw steampunk (squidpunk?) in next year…?

Those are so cool, John.
My own personal favorites are variations on Michelangelo’s “Creation of Man” from the Sistine Ceiling. I haven’t collected, but I might have to start now, after seeing your collection.

I love it. Who’d've thought of squid for the Last Supper? How cool!

Oh I wish I still had the reinterpretation of The Last Supper my friend Ryan did when we were freshmen at Ricks College. Ryan digitized a copy of the picture and placed a box of Cheerios on the table in front of Jesus. Ryan gave me a copy that I held on to it for a while but don’t know where it is. I think my mom might have thrown it out when she was going through the closets. It was pretty cool though. Props to Ryan.
