(even when I’m a dorky Christian rocker)
This is an absolutely priceless vid from the—oh, what would you guess—the 70s? I’m trying to extrapolate from the hair, the instruments, and the pants. Could be the 60s. Or who knows, could be last week and the band members simply live in a Christian time warp (they exist, I spent most of the 80s in one).
The group calls themselves Sonseed, which sounds more creepy and vaguely disgusting the more I think about what it might refer to… But! They are earnest in their desire to create godless rock ‘n’ roll music that is, in fact, not godless. But somehow, also not rock ‘n’ roll, either. They’re clearly having fun, but the song sure sounds like they wrote it for Sesame Street (I’ve never heard an actual rock song so well enunciated!).
If you dare:
You can read the fantastic lyrics here.
Highlights:
He taught me how to praise my God and still play rock and roll.
The music may sound different but the message is the same.
It’s just the instruments who praise His name.
Sounds like someone’s trying to convince their pastor that they’re not going straight to hell for looking sideways at a guitar, a keyboard, or *gasp* a drum kit.
Once I tried to run, I tried to run and hide.
But Jesus came and found me and He touched me down inside.
He is like mountie, He always gets His man,
and He’ll zap you any way he can.
Jesus is a stalker of mine
(Jesus is my stalker)
Jesus is a molester of mine
(Jesus touched my soul)
Jesus wants to get me
(Jesus has a tazer)
He loves me when I waste my time by writing silly songs.
Well, thank the Lord for that!
