This is from one of my favorite bands of all time, the punk trio, Sleater Kinney. They were part of the riot grrrl movement of the 90s (Bitch, my favorite feminist ‘zine, also came out of this era). The video does little justice to their talent and incredible energy. I had the good luck to see them in concert in a small venue before they went on indefinite hiatus–perhaps one of my most spiritual experiences of 2006.
I wish I could’ve been a riot grrrl. Instead, I was wearing a shirt and tie, spreading patriarchal gospeley goodness abroad and then presumably presiding at home.

she is *awesome*! Clearly my tastes run more mainstream—we’ll have to coordinate a bitch-swap

Oh man…S-K is definitely one of my top ten favorites. I didn’t even discover them until post-said hiatus. What a complete and sincere bummer. Thanks for this little boost today. You wouldn’t think I’d need it after no fewer than THREE HUMONGOUS PIECES of coconut cake, but indeed I did.

Sleater-Kinney is one of my all time favorites. Lately I’ve been keeping up with Carrie Brownstein via her blog http://www.npr.org/blogs/monitormix/ which is one of my favorite music blogs.
