I’m now in Salt Lake City for the annual Sunstone Symposium. Jana and I agonized over whether or not to honor our commitments in the light of Jana’s recent health crisis. After our meeting with the surgeon last Tuesday, and considering what a social/spiritual break from our current trials Sunstone would be, we decided to risk the trip. Ultimately, this is only possible because of the generous support in time, meals and even medical help from family and F/friends. Jana is making a heroic effort: she will breeze into town on Saturday, suffer through pain, fatigue and limited mobility, and we’ll fly back together on Sunday. In case you’re interested, here are the panels we’re sitting on:
Thursday:
2:15 - 3:15: Zion 2.0: Building the Kingdom in an Online, Linkedin, Open Source World - I will be responding to a paper by Sunstone’s Rory Swenson.
Saturday:
11:15 - 12:45: Raise up a child in the way she should go…and which way is that? - I am on a panel, and will be speaking on our family’s choice to raise the children outside of the Church.
2:15 - 3:15: This I Believe - Nine of us will be reading our essays in the format of the NPR classic.
4:45 - 6:15: La Vida Online - Jana is sitting on a panel with Heather F—ing Armstrong of Dooce! ‘Nuff said.
But mostly we’re looking forward to meeting with dear friends, new and old. If you’re in town, we’d love to try to hook up with you. Let us know!

Wow.
I cannot tell if I’m more excited for you guys or completely jealous. The two emotions feel similar today.
I’m sending happy thoughts to Jana! Hopefully the energy of Sunstone will help to, at the very least, dull the pain.

Someday I’d love to go out to one of these.
I hope you tweet some updates from the road.
