Most great political leaders (including my heroes, Gandhi and the Dalai Lama) are acutely aware that they are constantly in the spotlight. I wonder if there really is a private persona for some of these types. Its non-specificity makes me share some of chandelle's cynicism (though I might be more so if it said something like "please protect the frail health of my ancient opponent, John McCain." Still, public or private, not a bad choice of words. I’m conflicted, too.
