Music Monday: Where the Hell is Matt?

I never thought I’d get choked up watching a stupid dance video, but this one is amazing for both the incredible range of Matt Harding’s travel experience and for showing that no matter the culture, age, race or location, homo sapiens loves to dance.

This makes me cry easily and smile, too. It’s right up there with the free hugs videos (My favorite being the one in Hollywood with Israel Kamakawiwo`ole’s rendition of “Somewhere over the Rainbow”)

What is it about these types of things that elicit such emotion? I find it hard to articulate well. I guess it’s because they embody the freedom and love of humanity in the midst of pure joy. No pretense, nothing but simple pleasure and joy.

This is not a stupid dance video! [/shock]

My cousin turned me on to this a few years ago & it is tres awesome: (a) He lives his life according to his priorities, which are travel and experience of other cultures, so good on him! (b) He clearly cares a lot about his family (WhereTheHellIsMatt.com was designed for them to keep track of him). (c) He is the personification of bringing joy to other places. (d) He doesn’t care that the internet knows he can’t dance (I guess that ties in with (a)).

I wish I were with Matt, wherever he is now. Or that I might be able to dance with him. wren’s got it right: this is pure joy.

Also? I think the crying is helped by Enya. wtf? I found his 2006 video much less tear-inducing.

I hoped that by putting “stupid” and “choked up” I would show the transition of my emotions while watching it.
