Although Elizabeth Edwards is also teh awesome. However, she [Obama] has become the latest target in the media as an “agressive, outspoken, forceful” woman. Her rise to this prominence after Clinton’s exodus from the misogynist spotlight can be taken to be indicative of the fact that one of the major draws [for the media] of Clinton is that she’s got a vagina! The allure of Obama is the same, although this time it’s not just the vagina that’s targetable, but its issue. (hat tip)
‘Course, this new target doesn’t stop the media from calling her husband “the first woman president“. So, sounds like just all around sexism against the Obamas. If you want to follow this more closely, there’s a whole website devoted to it (isn’t that sad? that enough of this material exists to dedicate a blog to it? no wonder Obama says she has rarely felt proud to be an American).
In other news, shocking research shows that homosexual couples have more equality in their marriages than do hets. Next: eating food makes you stop being hungry!

oh, and also? she’s angry. Well, with all the shit they’ve been saying, I’d be angry, too! Maybe she’s just paying attention.

Those are interesting links, xJane. Thanks.
Now, a couple of thoughts:
First of all, I’m always puzzled as to why some people seem to think being angry is such a bad thing. In my universe, there are quite a few things to be justifiably angry about, to be perfectly honest. And the folks that label anyone whose attitude they don’t like as “angry” is one of them. “Bitter” is a sort of synonym, to them. It always makes me laugh, however, when someone on the right complains about all those “angry lefties”…considering all the vitriol and, yes, plain anger, that emanates from the right.
Another LOL moment from one of the links: Tucker Carlson called Obama a wuss? Yeah, right. Can I just say…Look who’s talking.
Anyway, as far as I can see, a certain segment of the press has been looking to sandbag Michelle Obama ever since her husband entered the race. Certainly, for a time I had the impression that she was kind of snarky, until I saw a couple of more in-depth things with her and realized that what was happening was that the broadcast media was just showing sound-bites (or I was just seeing those sound-bites) that made her appear to be snarky. I hate sound-bites.

I heart Michelle, too, (sing-song happy voice) and I got to meet her! (pics linky)
It was great to hear her talk in person. She was down to earth, friendly, and wonderfully easy to relate to. The day I saw her she was visiting 4 or 5 small Iowa towns and just sharing a bit of her life growing up and why she believes in Barack’s abilities. There were undecideds in that room. It was pre-caucus. One might be tempted to question how a highly educated minority woman from a big city could connect with a room full of white working class and retired small town folks. Once she began talking there was no question. She talked about the common ground - things we all care about like health care and child care and education and the environment. She kept it real.
I have no doubt in my mind that it was because so many people could see Barack and Michelle up close and personal so often during that pre-caucus campaigning that he won Iowa so strongly. That is why he’s the only candidate I’ve supported monetarily. I want others to get to know the Obamas.
I’ll stop my gushing now.
