Do you remember those “there’s no wrong way to eat a Reese’s” ads? (My favorite one was Dracula, from whom I stole the title of this post.) When I allowed myself to eat them, Skittles were my absolute favorite candy. I would open the package and neurotically sort them into colors; I would then eat the purple ones first, generally all at once, because they tasted nasty. Seriously, where was the test market on that one?! Then, the green ones, in more than one mouthful because I was already reeling from the first bite of sugar, and because the green ones didn’t taste nearly as bad as the purple ones. Then I waited and slowly enjoyed the yellow, orange, and red ones at my leisure. (Once, in the midst of this ritual, DH came by and grabbed a handful of the good Skittles. I nearly killed him.)
This is all a long way of saying that I like saving something I like until the end, if that’s applicable & if it’s not, until I can savor it. So today, I sat down with a glass of red white and my TiVomote to watch the most recent episode of House, one of my favorite shows. It was not, unfortunately, a new episode, but it was a fun one. I love the House episodes that deal with religion & this one was a doozy: “Don’t Ever Change” involves a Hasidic Jew whose Hasidism House takes as a “symptom”, which someone recommends curing by giving her a dose of atheism. Totally worth it for all our listeners.
Bonus: the next House may have Mormons!
PS: do you eat the red ones first or last?

Are the red one’s strawberry? My favorite was always combining one red and one yellow to make strawberry lemonade or purple and yellow to make grape lemonade? Is that weird? A friend of mine recenly told me he got his friend to buy him European skittles because they were made without the use of gelatin. I personally am not so careful about gelatin consumption and wished he didn’t mention it to me.
Also, I would rather eat the peanut butter period. For me that chocolate is completely unecessary. Eat the peanut butter and toss the rest, which is totally watseful and why I eat peanut butter straight from the jar.

I’ve heard that the ability to delay gratification is the best predictor of “success” in life. I’ve never been good at it, though.
I usually just buy a huge bag of Reese’s and devour the entire thing without differentiating between peanut butter and chocolate, and then I get sick.

catBonny: when I was in Germany most recently, it was mid-mad-cow-scare, so I didn’t have any (gelatin-based) Gummibärchen! I always thought the red ones were cherry-flavored, but honestly, they’re just sugar & chemicals. I don’t think they’ve seen this side of a cherry or strawberry in…ever. And I would eat the peanut butter first to get it out of the way of the chocolate! (Have you tried the white-chocolate Reeses? yumtastic.) Maybe that just means that you & I should share Reeses
Mudphud: it’s not something I do in many areas of my life, unfortunately. Maybe I should start thinking about [TV, 360, internet, whathaveyou] as though it were red Skittles…that sounds like a pretty good metaphor for life, neh?

I love this. I *always* save the best bite for last when I eat. Okay, maybe when the food isn’t that great I don’t. But if I’m eating something yummy, the best bite is last. The most tender morsel of steak. The most perfectly combined bite of salad, with all the scrumptious fixings. The supersoft center bite of a cookie, preferably the one with the chunk of white chocolate in it. mmmm….

my little sister buys some of their peanutbutter (I think the one with raisins and cinnamon) and loves it.

When my sister and I were young, we had an unspoken contest on who could draw out the consumption of bacon (the favorite part of Sunday bacon and egg breakfasts) the longest. It got to the point where we had our own containers in the fridge and drew it out for days.

Ah, but with watermelon, I ALWAYS eat the heart first, because it’s the best part, and overwhelms my taste buds with that awesome flavor. It’s just not the same rush if you save it for last; it loses that “specialness”. Weird, huh?
