Music Monday: Bodhisattva Vow, by the Beastie Boys

You’d never think that the Beastie Boys, of all groups, could produce thoughtful, meditative/religious tunes.  This one is god-free, but does pitch some supernatural Buddhist ideas:

I love to blast this and focus exclusively on the deep bass chanting.

The following song is all about doubt and searching.  The imagery is pretty generic, so you can just open up another tab or window in your browser or simply close your eyes and listen.

Anyone else listen to and like/dislike this? Or are y’all scared off by the “Beastie Boys”? :P

Oh, the Beastie Boys one was way fun. Watched it with my four year old and we talked about how important it is to love “everyone”. Very nice. I’m so cynical lately, it was nice to have something a little more uplifting.

hehe, I like most of the Beastie Boy’s classics (Fight for Your Right & She’s Crafty being favs) but this is one of their few recent ones I like. Not a huge fan of the second one, tho…

I remember when they hit the scene when I was in high school. Just a bunch of careless, obnoxious arses who inspired the same behaviour in others. I’m glad to see the Beastie Boys matured this decade as has their music in style and substance.
