Romney’s Out

Romney waves goodbye

Mitt Romney will quit his bid for the presidency, according to the Washington Post.

I can’t say that I’m surprised, or that I’m sorry to see him go.  I have nothing against his Mormoness–I like Harry Reid, and would have found Romney more palatable if he had held on to his more tolerant, pro-gay, pro-abortion Massachusetts governor persona.  His calculated polish seemed to be a counterpoint to Obama’s apparent authenticity.

Here’s a scary thought: now that Romney’s out of the way, and Huckabee is unlikely to beat McCain for the nomination, what if the septuagenarian McCain picks the young and vigorous competitor for his running mate? And wins the presidency?

scary thought indeed–regardless of whether by “young and vigorous competitor” you mean huckabee or romney. (i think romney as running mate is unlikely, given the dynamics the last month and given the mccain/huckabee help-along that happened in places like west virginia).

is it wrong of me that for the first few minutes after hearing romney had dropped out i wanted to post a gleeful entry on my blog that included the line “ding dong the witch is dead!”? :)

Can you say “Creation” and “Science” in the same breath?

I’d like to think that this is just fear-mongering but then again … I’ve lived in the US for the past 10 years so this is all too real.

A Mac and Huck ticket has the pontential to make us all reminisce sweetly on the GWB years.

I have total disdain for Romney and it is because of his Mormoness. Not because he is Mormon - because of his brand of Mormon. When it served him, he was more liberal so he could get elected in MA. When he wanted to run a national campaign, he became the model of a conservative Republican, lock step in line with every value of the most conservative wing of the party and criticized anyone who dared to infer Bush’s policy’s aren’t 100% perfect.

I have respect for Huckabee for at least referring to Bush as having an arrogant bunker mentality. Romney came down on him for that. He came down the exact same way that I’ve seen Mormons come down on people who are fine Mormons but disagree with a policy of the first presidency.

In a debate the panel was questioned about whether or not waterboarding was torture. McCain had the guts to actually admit, yeah it is. Romney would not admit that because he was so concerned with lining himself up with Bush’s administration and their policies. He double spoke and avoided the question. He would never speak ill of the Lor - er the party’s - annointed.

It reminded me of a time a co-worker asked me what I thought about some theological point and I began, as I so often did at that time in my life, “Well, we believe that -” He cut me off and said, “No, what do you believe?”

Had he had a shot at becoming president, it would have scared the bejeebers out of me because he is not a leader. He is a follower who looks to his leaders for direction.

He would, however, make an excellent stake or mission president. And by excellent I mean he wouldn’t be a source of any consternation for general authorities.

Romney is such a giant chunck of sh!t that it is good to see him quit. He and the huckster both want a theocracy so bad they can taste alter boys. Make way for Mcain…. the biggest warmonger in the whole bunch. I’m hoping for an Obama/Edwards ticket. It’s just a shame the USA isn’t a democracy, isn’t it? I guess that’s the price of “freedom.”

I hated his “fear-mongering” as well. Making himself out to be some sacrificial lamb for the sake of the war on terror. Gah, as if Clinton and Obama don’t know what war means, or know how to handle it (what makes him think he or Bush did).
