888, the Number of the Least.

Remember how scary the House of Representatives’ Christmas Resolution was?  It’s nothing compared to H.R. 888–the American Religious History Week Bill–which ignores actual historical facts to promote a particular brand of Christian mythical history.  Check out this point by point refutation of the historical half-truths contained in the bill.  I’m too tired to post details, but there are some real gems in there–including a few that would raise the eyebrows of anyone with a rudimentary background in U.S. history.

I didn’t read the whole thing, and I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know enough about how the government operates, but is this really what we are paying our representatives to do for us? It seems like this would be the type of work better performed by a pastor (since his/her job is to study faith and that is what people give their money for him/her to do, among other things), and not by a governmental representative of a state.
