I agree, morethan70457: morality is and should be relative. Sometimes, though, comedy can be found in those whose world view I disagree with :)

"And logically, there won't be anything. You can't defend morality with logic"

Try me.

"Atheists still tell their girlfriends they "love" them, and not that they simply feel a psychological artifact of a biochemical bond generated by the mating instinct."

Please. is this guy serious,

The article, while funny, tends to argue that atheists don't have a moral leg to stand on, that ethics and morality are entirely the in the realm of the religious and I beg to differ. I agree that there is more that connects us than divides us but I don't need an absolute authority to know right from wrong. And I don't need absolute authority to explain right from wrong. Atheism gets chained to the scientific method as though that were our holy text. But philosophy and ethics, even morality are all part of my world view. and made stronger by my position on religion. 100 years ago in most of the world it was ethically and morally sound for a 45 year old man to marry an 11 yr old girl. The prophet Mohammed's youngest wife was 9. This is no longer expectable (in most parts of the world) What changed? the Holy Textbooks did not. Our morality evolved. and an evolving Morality is in my mind, much better than an absolute unchanging authority.

I remember when the God Fuse came out ages ago, in Wong's pre-Cracked days. Reminded me of some of the stuff he did ages back for the Christian FAQ, which was both insightful and humorous. The man probably isn't a Catholic, but sometimes he sounds like some of the best ones that I've heard, especially on questions of false tensions between faith and reason.

BTW, here's the link to the FULL 10 thing article. Don't know what's wrong with the other one. http://www.cracked.com/article_15759_10-things-christians-atheists-can-must-agree-on.html
I'm sure one of you can clean it up for the main post.

My favorite quote?

""EVERY LETTER IN THIS BOOK IS ETCHED DIRECTLY FROM THE HAND OF THE ALMIGHTY AND ANY ONE SYLLABLE CAN REDUCE ALL OF THE WORK OF ALL THE WORLD'S SCIENTISTS TO RUBBLE!"

Hehe.
