A recent article in the NYT about the history of marriage and a possible solution going forward.
This subject is close to my heart, as I was married out of the Church and yet it changed my family’s entire relationship to my husband (now they talk to him…), but I really think it’s not a bad idea. Especially culturally: people in my position, who want a “marriage” that’s not religious in nature, or not “blessed” by a religion, are still going to have issues with their religious families. But if we start laying the groundwork now, maybe in a generation, there will be no stigma.
