I think I linked to this before, but I’m not certain, so I shall relink and remind people that the Governor of Georgia believes that a solution to the crisis of lack of water in his community is to pray. Never mind cutting down your water habits; never mind looking into the ways that our water is polluted; never mind all that, God gave us this good earth & if he wants us to drink, he’ll give us water. What rarely gets said, though, is the converse: if he doesn’t give us water, maybe he wants us to thirst; or at least cut down our consumption. Or maybe, he just doesn’t exist!

Recently, in Colorado, desperate skiers (I’ve been there) decided to pray for snow. But they did not decide to pray to Governor Perdue’s Baptist God. They decided to pray to the Norse God of Skiers (oh, and of Hunting), Ullr. Who may just be happy that people (a) remember him and (b) can pronounce his name, because it worked!

Maybe Ullr’s trying to send a message: “I’m here, pray to me. I control your access to snow.” Or maybe it’s a coincidence. Hey, maybe Gov. Perdue should enlist some pagans for a rain ceremony. That would be awesome.
