Intelligent Design on Trial

Nova has a special on the Dover, Pennsylvania ID controversy (hat tip to Rich–thanks!) The entire two hour show is split into 12 episodes for viewing on the web.

I have to admit that I’m more familiar with the politics than the science behind intelligent design. It seems that it is being pushed almost exclusively by Christian conservatives, and the controversy is primarily cultural, rather than scientific. I plan to watch this episode over the next few days. If you’ve seen it, please share your impressions with us.

By the way, I’m going to promote Rich’s summary of the ID movement from the comments to this post. He calls it “Telling lies for Jesus.” Any reactions to this?

Take the time to go through the whole thing, so you’ll know what I’m talking about with the “telling lies for Jesus” summary. It was extremely well done, and I think took a very fair stab at objectivity. If you watch it online, I recommend the Quicktime version, as it provides captions, as well as identifying who the various people actually are that are being interviewed. My favorite part is when Behe is confronted with the stack of books. Classic!

last year we had an excellent conference on the intelligent design debate at uvsc. i was able to pick up robin collins from the airport and took him out to dinner. while one of the top proponents of intelligent design, he believes that it is not science and should not be taught as such, but should be rather taught as metaphysics, philosophy, or religion.
