A step back in time

at least, I wish it was. Unfortunately, this is a recent commercial, all the scarier for that. Just built different. I’ll remember that the next time someone thinks I’m not smart because I don’t have dangly wobblies between my legs: I’m just built different. My poor, female brain simply can’t handle the complexities of [insert subject here]. I wonder what might have happened to my misshapen brain had I been given such a toy when I thought I was still equal to boys.

Via.Just to balance the equation (I’m still all about balance, even though I should know better), here is a song that spoke to be long before I really understood how true it was (turn your volume way down before you blow out your speakers or eardrums):

I love that the person who recorded it is singing along, that’d totally be me.

I love playing in the dirt with yellow tonka trucks when I was a little girl. :-)

just lovely. i find it amusing that after watching the tonka commercial, one of the videos listed as similar was an advertising for the barbie fashion boutique–a toy that not only demonstrates for young girls the acceptable standard for beauty (barbie has actually had a breast reduction and gained a pound or two around the middle, but she’s still a problem), but also trains young girls to shop shop shop. and with a credit card, too.

i love that dar williams song. thanks for posting it–i hadn’t heard it for a while.

Hmmm, like a step back in time. Amazing how we continue to perpetuate this maddness, ugh.
