Wednesday Challenge: Make Something Re-Useful

Posted by xJane on September 25th, 2007 at 9:35 pm · No Comments

This week, make something to replace a disposable item you use. A fabric bag, a coffee/tea sleeve, or a sandwich holder. It doesn’t have to be cloth; that is, you don’t have to sew it. Just create something to replace a disposable thing. And share! Tell us how to make it or how to contact you to buy it. In extreme cases, tell us where to go to buy it from someone else. (The point of this is self-sufficiency, but sometimes that does require outside help.) And share with us your story of how often you might use this item and why we should all replace our disposable item with the reuseful one.

While I don’t have time to craft this week, I did feel inspired enough to buy a travel coffee mug made from recycled parts. I’m using it instead of the disposable cups at the coffee shops.

Now that I think about it, the time-issue is a big deal. I’ve acquired canvas bags, bento boxes, and other items to replace disposable ones, but I’m going to have to admit that I can’t fulfill the “make it yourself” requirement of this challenge. :(

to ask ppl to make something…but that’s why it’s a challenge, neh? I’ve recently discovered that I have a nasty habit of buying reusable bags. Just about anywhere I see them, I buy them. I even have ones that I’ve made! I need to start keeping them in my car, because otherwise I end up not even using them…

Incidentally, there’s a trend in NorCal to switch from plastic to metal bottles, so I just got a metal bottle up here that hopefully will end up on my bike soon :)
