He vs. She

We did this awhile back with music, but now there’s a site that uses Google to determine how gender imbalanced a site is and in which direction. MoF is substantially biased in the female direction with a ratio of 1:2 (34%:66%, M:F). This compares to CNN’s 77:23, BlogHer’s 32:68, and AllRecipes.com’s 59:41. How do some of your most frequented sites stack up?

That’s interesting. As it stands today (before I post an entry about some men and their behavior, as it happens), my blog sits right at 50:50. The science fiction/fantasy forum where I’m a moderator is at 63:37, male to female.

I’m glad MoF has this bias, since feminism is one of our key emphases. There’s a lot of talk here about women’s issues in particular, so the feminine pronouns should pop up a lot. I guess you could come up with analogies for sites that explicitly tackled homophobia or racism.

There was another site I encountered maybe a year or so ago that was a gender predictor: it analyzed a range of keywords for any text or url you plugged into it. Does this ring any bells?

It predicted that MoF was written by a woman. I was kind of proud of that. :)

My blog is 40% he, 60% she.
Other sites I was curious in, and the results:

    http://www.lds.org - 65% he, 35% she

California Board of Accountancy (http://www.dca.ca.gov/cba/): 55% he, 45% she

American Insitute of CPAs (www.aicpa.org): 61% he, 39% she

    Financial Accounting Standards Board (www.fasb.org): 75% he, 25: she….OUCH!!!

More female representation for accountants, please! :-)
