Welcome!

If you’re reading this, then you’ve wound your way through the proper tubes to Mind on Fire’s new server! I wish the change could be more visually dramatic, but I’m happy that things went so smoothly (to quote Fergie, “you don’t want no drama”). The actual move of data (posts and comments) and WordPress was fairly painless (completed the bulk of it on my lunch break), but it’s taking hours for the domain to point to the new server.

If I understand right, the magic DNS servers hidden across the lands refresh their caches at different times, so some people were accessing the new server while others were languishing on the old one. Mark posted a comment to the new one at 2pm Pacific time, I finally got through to the new setup around 5:30, but an hour later, Miko’s comments went to the old site.

It’s late, but I just wanted to keep you all posted on the transition. Thanks for bearing with me. :)

Looks from here like it’s all hunky-dory - I got to this entry by clicking its link in my feed email; my bookmarked link for the site as a whole shows this post at the top. All new site, all the time!

ha! I can comment!!! *ahem* John: you are free to tell me that this is my own damn fault for not using Firefox, but the comment box &, sometimes, links on the new MoF don’t work in Safari.

I’ll have to look into that–I usually bypass the WordPress interface by using http://ftp. I’ll try to fix that this weekend.
