On Sexism

March 8th, 2007 · by Miko · 7 Comments

Today is Blog Against Sexism Day (another blholiday…who makes these up?). But I don’t know what to say against sexism other than that it’s, um, bad? I would be happy to respond to arguments for sexism, but I think most of the people who are pro-sexism don’t recognize it as “sexism” and don’t discuss it […]

Temple Night

Which may mean something else to the Mormons & exMormons among you, but that’s what the Grand Master of our new Tai Chi dojo calls the first Tuesday of the month.
Once a month, apparently, the whole dojo gets together for philosophical discussion & Tibetean chant. The philosophical discussion could be better, but is a good […]

I seem to be making my way through emotions here, it wasn’t on purpose, I swear…
I was catching up on my podcasts today while sewing & the Secrets of Harry Potter’s Valentine’s Special came up. (both are iTunes links) Secrets of Harry Potter is one of the podcasts put out by the Catholic Insider. As […]

The Pathology of War.

March 4th, 2007 · by John · 3 Comments

Peace is a dirty word, a negative concept to many in the U.S. today. Here’s one example: when a homeowners association in Colorado banned the display of a peace sign last Christmas, they cited concerns that it was “an anti-Iraq war protest.”
I don’t get it. Shouldn’t we all be in favor of peace?

Stealing Paintings to Tell Stories.

March 2nd, 2007 · by John · 1 Comment

This is your mission:
Use a painting or photo or some kind of static, linkable visual art to comment on some aspect of religion. The work itself doesn’t need to be religious (but it can be). For example, you might use:
