Which may mean something else to the Mormons & exMormons among you, but that’s what the Grand Master of our new Tai Chi dojo calls the first Tuesday of the month.
Once a month, apparently, the whole dojo gets together for philosophical discussion & Tibetean chant. The philosophical discussion could be better, but is a good way to start the month (he mentioned that there are few enough times that we are given a “seed” to think about for the rest of the [unit of time], that ministers’ & priests’ seeds often run out by the end of the week).
Yesterday, we discussed the fact that a compass always points north, regardless of how the letters on it are oriented. He then applied it to life: north being a purpose, a final desire of some flavor and the letters on the compass being various distractions along the way.
A good seed for the rest of the month.
After that, though, we did a “3000 year old Tibetan Buddhist healing chant”. I don’t know if its credentials are as stated, but it was pretty amazing. We started with “mm” which resonates in your brain and moved down with different sounds, feeling the vibrations.
Apparently, the Grand Master is a Qigong healer and this is one of the chants he uses. We all sat in a circle throughout the evening & during the chant, anyone who wants additional oomph from it can sit in the center. It was tres cool. I wish I could hang on to that kind of feeling for long periods of time.
Now, I’m off to learn more about qigong!
