the Legacy of Jean Paul Getty

I went with my sister to the Getty today. We went for the icons from Sinai. I like the style of them, but mostly I liked seeing them through her (and her kids’) eyes. After she left, I hung out at the grounds and wandered the gardens at a leisurely pace. It was distressing to realize that my “slow” pace is still faster than a lot of people’s…at tai chi (should that be capitalized?) last night, our instructor was moving way too fast for both my husband and I. Now, he likes a slower pace than I, but part of what I like about tai chi is the slowy-downness of it. Anyway, walking around the Getty was great. The view is amazing. The grounds are so kempt, one feels out of place in jeans. It’s like an oasis of calm in the midst of the desert of LA. The great thing about it, too, is all the native plants. Someone near me mused that it was like a different world; she’s right. As you take the train back down to your car, you can feel yourself getting back to the city, feel your feet moving that much faster, your mind starts working on more things at once, you get revved back up for Life in The City. Or at least I do…

I’m so envious. I haven’t been to the new Getty.

We are big fans of the Getty (the free admission makes it very family friendly). The tram ride, the fossils in the travertine marble, the gardens are worth it, not to mention the art!

We definitely need to take you up there, John White. :)
