I almost felt sorry for Madame Secretary Rice after watching this.¬† Almost.¬† After we watched it, I said to Jana, “That was vicious.”¬† To which she replied, “But I liked it.”

LOL! Love it. My feelings about Keith Olbermann are not always charitable, but at least he has the lips to stand up and tell the truth. Didn’t he used to be on Fox? I think of him as a non-funny John Stewart: essential to keeping ones head in these times.

Awesome. Simply awesome. Olberman at his best is very, very good.

I wish Olbermann would spend less time making fun of celebrities and more time making fun of politicians. I love his show when he does.
As for him slamming Rice, it’s about bloody time. The media hasn’t picked on her as much as they could have (or should have). I’m glad he’s standing up to her.

Non-funny, Miko? Maybe I’ve just got a screwy sense of humor, but I find Olbermann hilarious much of the time. I do agree with Jeff, however, that I wish he would save more of his gift for politicians.
As far as his “Special Comment” directed at Ms. Rice, I thought it was spot-on. And I don’t think it was vicious; someone in her position needs to be called on it when he or she is just plain wrong.

Elaine: heh. I laugh when I listen to him, but not because he’s funny, but because it’s scary that he’s the only one who says it…

Yes, there is that. He tends to have a way of getting right to the crux of the matter rather than dancing around things like so many in the media today do. And that is a good thing.
Anyway, I’ve found that I’ve become a bit addicted to his show…I’m listening to it as I type this, as a matter of fact.

You know…I can’t deny my leftist leanings and so I feel quite proud when someone says what I am often screaming into the television. Good for him. I showed this clip to a friend and asked if he thought it was too harsh. His reply was, “Well if you say something that stupid you deserve it.”

another perspective on Olbermann

I don’t know the assault story, but “A Slut and Battery” isn’t a good title.
However, I do take exception with the author of this article, Sandi Burtseva, since Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are consciously marketing themselves with their sexuality. When that’s what you’re marketing, anyone should be able to critique it.
That being said, if Olbermann is marketing himself as a high-end talent, we should be able to critique his editorial standards. In this case, I think they’re horrible.

I heard a lot about this when it came out and didn’t realize it was Olbermann (or didn’t make the connection). I think there’s a line between “marketing […] their sexuality” and calling someone a slut or making references about sexual practices that could be considered demeaning during a report about an assault.
I like your point about critiquing someone within the realm that that person has made their presence known. I feel like some feminists rally to a woman’s side just by virtue of her possession of a vagina. And while in many cases that’s admirable, one also has to look at the whole of the issue, not just the gender involved.
I’m still on the fence about Olbermann: I like him a lot of the time, s/times I feel he crosses a line (although I didn’t realize this particular thing was him, so I’m not going to comment on that). I just hope he continues to stand up to the right wing. I suppose that might mean he’ll stand up to the left wing on occassion, too.
