Geography: What do Texas and Canada, Kansas and Malaysia, Hawaii and Nigeria have in common? The answer can be found in a map that matches the GDP of various nations of the world with the 50 states.
Trend: According to the New York Times, for the first time ever more than half of American women are living without a spouse.
Optimism: Science Fiction predictions that thankfully did not come true. Feel free to add your own.
Pessimism: There’s still room for our worst nightmares to be realized however. Read about Israel’s plans to (strategically) nuke Iran. (Why is this not getting any coverage in the States?)
Timesuck: Bizarre dance dance fun. Make your own. Watch out for the dancing penises.
Also, I have found my people (oh Internet, is there anything you can’t do?):
- There is a site and a virtual community for nontheist Quakers.
- There is a Nontheism Among Friends workshop (scroll down a bit) in New York THAT I CANNOT ATTEND THIS YEAR. But I’m not disappointed at all. *sniff*
- Since Quaker meetings for business are centered on finding the will of God, what place do nontheist Quakers have in them? I especially appreciate one of the comments: Doubting the existence of God doesn’t mean doubting the experience of God.
I will likely return to this topic. Stay tuned.

I’d never say “duh” to you, so instead I’ll say:
“Uh-duh!”

Just kidding, that’s a very nice expression reconciling doubt with spirituality.

I agree: my doubt about God is more fueled by all of the things that I don’t think the Divine is (not male, not female, not able-to-be-concieved) and so it’s so difficult to define that it’s much easier to not believe. But I know that I’ve had certain experiences that can’t be explained if there is no Divine.

What I like about the quote is that it separates the objective (existence) from the subjective (experience). I think that many problems are caused by blurring the lines between the two.

When I first read this title, I thought it read “Sharing the Kinky Love” and thought that maybe John was writing about some new subjects

another link that I don’t think deserves a post of its own; file under science, feminism/gender: 3D Morphable Face. The demo’s about 5 mins. but worth it, keep an eye out for changing “perceived gender”
