Joy in the Misery of Others.

In preparation for the Republican’s defeat today, I baked a Schadenfreude pie. As soon as CNN projected that the Dems would take the House, we sat down to savor its bittersweet darkness as we gloated over the great fall of the Republicans from monopolistic power.

And as happy as I am to see a minimal restoration of checks and balances between the executive and legislative branches, it really is the removal of the Republicans (from the House, at least) that I am rejoicing in. I am skeptical that the Democrats will contribute any sort of coherent vision or capable leadership. I hope they prove me wrong. Then I’d be happy to eat crow.

I don’t know about crow but schadenfreude pie is today’s blue-plate special! I hope you rumed it up ’cause this pie has got to drown some serious sorrows.

I too take great “Freude” in the “Schaden” caused to the Republicans (even if just in the House). Sounds like a time to have cake, AND eat it. Smile.

i swear that is the coollest thing i’ve ever heard of. you went up three and a half notches in my esteem just cause you made that pie. and another two cause you led me to a blogger who spells his cat fluffy’s name ghlaghghee.

wish i’d been around to partake of the celebratory schadenfreude.

Next time I’ll be sure to invite you, Amelia! If you swing by, the pie is begging to be shared. :)

I’m still on the fence about it. The Republicans are acting too smug and I’m too cynical to think this is a success yet.
