Dream within a Dream.

I had this dream last night where I thought I had made it to the Sunstone conference on time but then realized I was so late that I missed out on all of the sessions in which I was a chair or a respondent. Obviously there’s some deeply buried anxiety concerning my duties at Sunstone West tomorrow.

None of this explains why was pulled over by a belligerent officer on the way home. In typical dream logic, my subconscious provided the answer: the car was stolen. As the cop grilled me, my car kept mutating to more and more expensive makes and models, until it ended as a razor-sharp emerald green Lamborghini-Viper hybrid. Finally he decided that he needed to steal it for himself, and the dream ended with him trying to figure out what to do with me, and my subconscious racing through possible answers before just waking me up.

I’m not quite a lucid-dreamer, but I am to the point now where I’m half-aware that my mind in its dream-state is actively trying to construct narratives and to make sense of bits and pieces of my life. I’m still a character in my own stories, and the fact that the story-writing part of my mind is aware that the in-the-story part knows that it’s part of a narrative influences the writing process. I hope that made sense.

Anyhow, I’m nervous about the conference, and I’m still working on my responses, which is why I haven’t been as active on mindonfire this week. I’ll be back to my (conscious) story-telling self next week.

eh, you’ll be fine: just be yourself. I’m impressed that you remembered enough of this dream to blog about it the afternoon after you had it. My dreams usually dissipate within minutes…and, isn’t it technically “dweam wivvin a dweam”?

I didn’t see this message until after Sunstone–all went well, dear. You did awesome! :)

If it were my dream, John, I would wonder who the “beligerent cop” might be that would steal (repress?) my new growth and way of perceiving how I travel through life. If it were my dream.
