I’m not doing very well on religious posts this week. I have at least two fun pilgrimage sites (in LA, not OC) to write about–hopefully in the next few days. In the meantime, I’ll leave you all with one of my favorite Buddhist prayers:

May I become at all times, both now and forever
A protector for those without protection
A guide for those who have lost their way
A ship for those with oceans to cross
A bridge for those with rivers to cross
A sanctuary for those in danger
A lamp for those without light
A place of refuge for those who lack shelter
And a servant to all in need.

Namaste, and good night.

    Namaste, Brother Pilgrim. I’ve recently re-discovered a favorite Catholic song/prayer: of St. Francis:

    Make me an instrument of peace.
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    where there is injury, pardon;
    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
    and where there is sadness, joy.
    Grant that I may seek, not so much to be consoled, as to console;
    to be understood as to understand;
    to be loved as to love;
    for it is in giving that we receive;
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
    and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

    May you & Sister Pilgrim be blessed in your quest.

    When I visited the gift store at the Catholic Cathedral in downtown LA last week, I picked one card off of a rack that had dozens and dozens of saints (with a picture on front and a prayer to the saint on the other side). The saint was St. Francis and the prayer was this one. It’s one of my favorite, favorite prayers. Thank you.

    You said “song”–is sung as a hymn? I think I’ve heard someone–maybe Sarah McLachlan–put the prayer to music.

    Miko:
    Thank you for the prayer. I do appreciate it very much. :)
    For many years I kept this particular prayer in the front of my journal and read it almost daily. Just the act of passing my eyes over the words calms and centers me. In reading it I feel both power and peace. :)
