Thanks to Jana and Holly, I’ve learned a thing or two about images of women in the media and in Western history, religion and literature. I decided to explore some of the options I had available to me in terms of attractive women and men tempting the viewer with luscious fruit.
There were two or three times as many women as men, and some of the women I didn’t feel I could publish on this *cough* family-friendly site. Anyhow, it was fun and enlightening, and distracted me from the several chapters of Rene Girard I should be reading for tomorrow. Ultimately all of these fail because they are hard to crop portrait images, and my banner is so short and wide (which is one reason I went with the Eve image I had–she was already “cropped” and the surrounding white worked with the whitespace on my site).

None of these are as tempting as this hunk with his Apple, however:
*Swoon!*

Perhaps the very plethora of images shows that this is just not a fresh metaphor, John. Be original
My preference among these images will remain private. Tho I’ll bet John can guess which of these pix my eyes would linger over the longest….

I quite like the tousled guy tossing away the apple from which he has taken a bite. Yum!
But I must admit, I think the swoony hunk with the apple behind him and the apple he’s extending, without any sexual overtones, does the best job of representing the apple as invitation to knowledge.
But I must agree with J–it’s not the freshest metaphor in the orchard, so you might pick another.

I like the pics of the two girls on the left, and Steve… Speaking of Steve, theres just so many good pics of Steve that you can use.
I was thinking theres always that picture of the apple with a bullet going through it, but that message may be opposite of what you wanted.
I also doubt that my wife’s favorite (Medea. found at Boston MFA) would work well either.
I did find a nice pic of a painting of a brain on fire!
