Tomorrow I plan to write about my experience at Station 02 of my OC Pilgrimage: my visit last Sunday to the Orange County Society of Friends (the Quakers). I’m discovering that this Church-hopping is lots of fun, and I’m anticipating my next visits. Here’s a list of potential places to visit in OC throughout this year:

  • Irvine United Congregational Church
  • Costa Mesa Unitarian Universalist Church
  • The biggest Mosque west of the Mississippi
  • University Synagogue
  • Mahikari : The World Divine Light Organization
  • Saddleback Church (the largest in the U.S.)
  • The Crystal Cathedral
  • Trinity Broadcasting Network HQ
  • The 220 year old Serra Chapel in the Mission San Juan Capistrano
  • Christ Our Redeemer African Methodist Episcopal Church
  • St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Parish Church
  • Orange County Buddhist Church (Japanese Pure Land Sect)
  • Zen Center of Orange County
  • Cao Dai Temple (Victor Hugo is venerated here!)
  • The Hari Krishna Temple in Laguna Beach

I don’t have specific locations for the following, but I’m interested in visiting :

  • Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall
  • Christian Science Reading Room
  • Yoga/Meditation group
  • Tibetan Buddhist Temple
  • Pentecostal Christian church
  • Spanish-speaking Evangelical church
  • Pagan, Wiccan, and/or Tarot gathering
  • Bahai gathering
  • Hindu temple

And so far I’ve visited:

I‚Äôd love to hear any recommendations you might have as well. Please let me know if you’re in Orange County and interested in giving me a tour or in joining me in my visits!

There’s Beth Jacob Congregation in Irvine (on Michelson), which is interesting because (1) they have a female cantor, which is very unusual for Conservative synagogues, and (2) my second cousin is a former president of the synagogue ;) .

Cool! Have you been there before? Any suggestions for a clueless Gentile who wants to pay a visit? Can you set up an introduction? :D

I’ve been there once; it’s not too big as far as big congregations go, but it’s certainly bigger than, say, the orthodox synagogue in Simi Valley. I’ll shoot an email to him and let him know you’re thinking of visiting (if I can find his email) and let you know what I hear. :)
