Run, do not walk, to www.worldonfire.ca. I haven’t been this moved by a music video since I first watched Dave Matthews’ Gravedigger (in the gym, without audio, and I was on the verge of breaking into tears on the treadmill). Thank you, Sarah.
I lost it–began sobbing–when watching Schindler’s List towards the end of the movie, when Schindler is pointing out the prices of various luxury items–his car, his coat, his jewelry–and calculating how many Jewish lives he could have bribed to safety. This scene moved me more than all of the heartache depicted earlier in the movie.
I struggle with this feeling often when I make frivolous purchases (to quote from ‘Seek Up,’ another Dave Matthews’ song: “sit a while with TV’s hungry child–big belly swelled–for the price of a coke or a smoke he’d be alive–those hungry eyes”).
How do we balance our trivial desires against the constant, desperate need of the world?

worldonfire, mindonfire…isn’t all the same–one person trying hard to shift the consciousness of their sisters and brothers, trying hard to make a difference in whatever way they can, even when it’s just pennies, tuppence, or $15 worth of effort.
